In love with Sociolinguistics

Since the very begin of the semester I simply got down on my knees for Sociolinguistics. And the most odd thing is that I used to deslike General Linguistics - and as well Ferdinand de Saussure, by the way specially him.
GL classes were very boring. That's what I was thinking about until just a days ago. I couldn't understand lots of things. I guess and I want to beleive that that was happening because I've lost the two firsts weeks of College I was unable to attende those days- I really don't want to think that I wasn't interested, now I saw how blind I was at that point to didn't realize and valorize this important science.
The subject didn't seem to have any conection to what I already knew. Although now Sociolinguistics made my mind change about General Linguistics. It's not just an amount of sentences in my copybook anymore.
As I said in one other opportunite to some of you I am fascineded to idioms and languages. How do people learn to speak, why do they speak differently depending to which part of the country they are. During this term everything will have an answer or at least a good idea of how it happens.
Other good point is that I am learning not ot jugde others speech. Before on my mind it was only "right" or "wrong". Now is: why?? Why did he/she it like that way. How did they make that choice instead of another?
To add a detail for the first time I congratulate a teacher after his class.
I am very motived to graduate in Linguistics area.
So people leave your impressions.
Do you think the same?
Did you get suprised to another subject? Was it good?
Let's share opinions about College and talk about our plans after undergraduate.

  2. Hy Aline!!! I loved your text!!! I loved sociolinguistics too and so as you, I did not like this when I studied it at Unisinos. I think our Teacher is very nice and it makes the difference. The way that she explains the subjects, she asks the students, she gives examples which make us to understand what she is talking about. I think we will learn very nice things this semester. See you, Evelise

  3. Aline Blue!!!
I think that you typed "beleive" [believe], but it's just a typo. Maybe in
    "attende" [attend],
    "conection" [connection],
    "opportunite" [opportunity],
    "fascineded" [fascinated],
    "motived" [motivate],
    "suprised" [surprised]
    In the sentence:
"Now is: why?? Why did he/she it like that way." Is LikeS because you wrote he/she...
I think you wrote by mistake.
Or I understood everything wrong :P~~
If is this, sorry!!! And I just wrote this "mistakes" bacause in your old post you asked to correct your texts.
Well, about your text. I agree with you about the boring GL classes. It's a crazy thing. Sometimes I didn't understand nothing. About the Sociolinguistics class I also thinking is boring class but now because I watch the same class [almost the same] in the night. It's very awful. But it's a great and vast subject. And about my plans: I want vacation!!! I wore written! Kisses Bianca ;)~~

  5. Hi, Aline! I liked your text. Last year we were with a lot of things in our face and We didn't know how we could manage everything. Now we know some subjects, because we studied and this semester we will enjoy and make questions about it. I hope I can enjoy in all subjects.

  6. Well, Aline, I just go and follow Bianca, who was very kind pointing out some spelling mistakes: I guess that if you re-read your text, you can solve some other existing problems.

    See you!

  7. Hii Aline!
Well...now I like sociolinguistics more than before (and that's good) although I'm not as surprised as you are!
    hehe
Unfortunatelly I didn't get surprised with any subjects. Literature I hate! Psychological Foundations of Education I don't like! Linguistic and sociolinguist I like and I think both are very interesting! English I really like (and I'm not saying this because Rafael is going to read hehehe) and I want to specialize in this area and if possible I want to specialize in something involving english and LIBRAS! And as you probably know I'm missing LIBRAS a lot! =/

    One question! What's the ABx?[2]
(I think is something like Aline Behling but the "x" I have no idea! Tell us Aline, please!) hehe

    Kisses for you girl!

  9. Hy my dear friend!!
    Very good your text.
I always loved linguistics, the Cintia's class is very good.
When I started the Collage I wanted to be a English teacher, now I changed my mind and I'm thinking different. This is very common.

    Kisses!!!
