In love with Sociolinguistics

Since the very begin of the semester I simply got down on my knees for Sociolinguistics. And the most odd thing is that I used to deslike General Linguistics - and as well Ferdinand de Saussure, by the way specially him.

GL classes were very boring. That's what I was thinking about until just a days ago. I couldn't understand lots of things. I guess and I want to beleive that that was happening because I've lost the two firsts weeks of College I was unable to attende those days- I really don't want to think that I wasn't interested, now I saw how blind I was at that point to didn't realize and valorize this important science.

The subject didn't seem to have any conection to what I already knew. Although now Sociolinguistics made my mind change about General Linguistics. It's not just an amount of sentences in my copybook anymore.

As I said in one other opportunite to some of you I am fascineded to idioms and languages. How do people learn to speak, why do they speak differently depending to which part of the country they are. During this term everything will have an answer or at least a good idea of how it happens.

Other good point is that I am learning not ot jugde others speech. Before on my mind it was only "right" or "wrong". Now is: why?? Why did he/she it like that way. How did they make that choice instead of another?

To add a detail for the first time I congratulate a teacher after his class.

I am very motived to graduate in Linguistics area.

S. C. Interacional, the Gaúcho Championship

S. C. Internacional won his first championship. The match was hold in Beira Rio stadiun and the public was very good, around fifty thousand people were there.
The soccer team taked on SER Caxias in the semi-final. Inter was playing his first team, but Caxias wasn't with two players, Muriel and Daniel, they couldn't play, because they are Inter soccer players and they are barrowed for Caxias.
The match was very easy, on twenty-three minutes the score was 4 to 0 to Inter. Magrão, Taison, Nilmar scored two times, Guiiñazu, Magrão scored again and D'Alessandro scored in the first half. Caxias payed back, but it was too late, and in the end Álvaro did a bit more to finish the humiliation, and the final score was 8 to 1 to Colorado.
As the team of Porto Alegre won the first turn called Fernando Carvalho, and won the seccond called Fábio Koff, they didn't need other match. So Inter was the unbeaten champion.
This is the first conquest of the team this year. Colorado also is going to play Copa do Brasil, Campeonato Brasileiro, Copa Sul Americana and Recopa Sul Americana. The team impress during this year were already twenty-five matches and seventy-six goals. Inter is the team which has more goals and it has the best retrospect in Brazil.

What do you prefer?

Not long ago I read in a magazine an article which was about beauty.

I didn't get suprised to find out that women usually got married to men that are judge ugly. However the same is not true for the male ones. Besides that this article reported that marriage between "princess" and "beasts" are longer than marriages between "princes" and "ugly girls". And when both in a marrige are beauties they generally lose interest for each other easily and faster.

Most girls do prefer a nice guy without caring about his appearance.

Although, let's see through men's eyes - or at least try it. How many times when were you walking on the street did you see a couple which was not matching in a beauty query? A handsome guy holding "a not too pretty" girl's hand? - honestly I saw once in my entire life.

In my opinion the male gender is more connected to looks. Good looks I mean. The ideal girlfriend is the girl from beer's propaganda. If she's brainless it doesn't really matter. She's part of his own visual. Trophy wife/girlfriend. She's a kind of visit card. Thefore to men to be beautiful is essential.

But for you what's more important: A good-looking guy that can't deal with a dialogue during miserable five minutes or a "not that handsome one" that is not just intelligent but it's funny too?

What's more likely: walk around with a "package" as part of your own style or with some kind of "Shrek" that puts a grin on your face?

This text is suppost to be funny. DO NOT feel angry or anything worse. I'm just using an stereotype. I personally do not beleive on it. So make your comments. My aim is to build our knowledge together. I'm waiting anxiously for your posts.

Moda Pelotas 2009

The weekend of fashion in Pelotas was very successful. The event happened on April 4 and April 5 in Centro de Eventos, which is the Fenadoce. A lot of stores were to show autumn/winter 2009 colection.
The criation and production of Moda Pelotas was made by Andrea Guerra, the realization was by Câmara de Diretores e Logistas de Pelotas (CDL), and the city hall of Pelotas, the sponsor were Marvel Ford and Universidade Católica de Pelotas. This event had the support of Pompéia, Carmen Steffens, Mania de Usar and Brix Jeans, which were participating of the fashion show, Moda Pelotas had others supports, like S.F. Soluções de Informática, O Boticário, Express, Idéia, Bosembecker and Beimar Vargas hairdesign.
On Saturday the stores which were participating to the fashion show were UCPEL, Mania de Usar, Intimidades Fashion, Valentina, Onix, Carmen Steffens, Zschornack, Briz Jeans, Pompéia, Minske Nunes, Eliza Andrade, Empório House, Calypso, Vip and Zoomp. According to the public the best stores in the fashion show were Valentina, Carmen Steffens, Empório House and Zoomp. On that day were the Claus and Vanessa's Concert.
On Sunday, was the time of Xavier Malhas e Tecidos, Authentical, Tevah, Emilice Calçados, Kukla's, Ótica Estima, Renner, Brascon, O Recanto Provençal, Flajjolé Malhas, Beth Shineid, Moça Bonita, Maria Loka and Padrão Noivas e Festas. The biggest top model, Paulo Zulu, participated in the fashion show.
The Moda Pelotas is very important to the city, because it gaves recognition for everybody who works with fashion, and this event put Pelotas in the fasion scene.

Our Expectations

We both hope that this new semester fill our minds with knowledge. In particular I, Aline, want to upgrade my English without forgetting the other subjects.I, Samantha, hope I improve myself as a teacher. And learn much more this term.
